Apart from writing books about sex, Nick, a qualified commercial fisherman and charter boat skipper, has written books on fishing and fish cookery, including co-authoring The River Cottage Book of Fish with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall which won the Andre Simon Best Cookery Book Award. He acted as Series Advisor to Hugh’s Fish Fight (Channel 4), which recently won a BAFTA (May 2011). Nick is also author of the River Cottage Sea Fishing Handbook.

Fishing is a lifelong passion for Nick, and led to him creating, writing and presenting four series of Screaming Reels (Channel 4) and the Sony Award-winning radio show Dirty Tackle (BBC 5 Live).

In book publishing, Nick is infamous for writing a number of informative teenage boys’ guides to growing up. These are all still in print and include such titles as Living With A Willy, Boys About Boys and The Complete Guide To Kissing. His frank sex-education book Your Pocket Guide To Sex, commissioned by the Health Education Authority, attracted the wrath of Brian Mawhinney, then Health Minister, when it ended up on nearly every national UK front-page. The book was withdrawn from sale because it was so candid. ‘Traditional values at the time, under John Major’s Conservative government meant I was immediately vilified and seen as Britain’s No 1 Smut-Monger,’ Fisher recalls. Penguin subsequently bought the rights and reprinted the controversial book.
